Display Energy Certificate (DEC) training and more conveyancer job losses
So a bit more fame and fortune for me! Well hardly, but I did bump into Michael Willoughby, journalist for Building and other property magazines at Display Energy Certificate training recently and it was good to touch base and swap notes on the industry.
His recent article But I've got a sustificate! A day in the life of a DEC trainee on the Building website gave a summary of the day training to become a DEC assessor in quite some detail. With tales of the purple cardigan lady, poor Emma (she ain't poor, did you not see the 1-series coupe outside Michael!), the woes of using the shaky DEC software and further descriptions of chatting in the kitchen while trying to keep warm by holding a mug of tea, I cannot recommend this article highly enough!
Job losses at Dickinson Dees and other large conveyancing firms. In another knockout blow to a property industry that has dropped to its knees a story doing the rounds last week has finally come to fruition. The news has filterd out that Dickinson Dees becomes the latest downturn victim with 70 redundancies planned as reported in the TheLawyer.com
Dickinson Dees are a major pack provider throughout the North of England and it will be the conveyancing teams that will be hit hardest by the cuts.
Elsewhere, EMW Law, Franklins Solicitors, Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors, Matthew Arnold & Baldwin (MAB), Shoosmiths and Tollers are among the firms making redundancies, with most of the job losses expected to affect support staff.

Personally, i feel sorry for those involved in these redundancies.Being based in the North-East I can tell you that the announcement of Dickinson Dees making so many redundacies(which i believe was a high percentage of their workforce)has sent shudders of panic to many local, related industry professionals.
