So what about Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) as Property Consultants and Energy Advisors?

DEAs as Property Consultants and Energy Advisors?

Plenty of discussion on the leading online forum for energy assessors about trying to acquire more property related skills such as:

1. taking photos
2. floorplan sketching
3. noting property particulars
4. doing the EPCs and instigating the HIPs
5. offering energy saving advice to home-movers
6. actually offering full estate agency services

and so on. Really interesting debate and for those self-employed DEAs who are determined to stick about and not be part of the mass exodus needed to clear out the uber-population of under-utilised DEAs then maybe some of the above makes sense. I shall follow the debate closely, with a decent calibre of individuals it could work. As with all things, it needs time, finance and the dedication to drive it through.

And the world will become a greener place.

A fantastic announcement by Scottish and Southern Electric (SSE) that they are to bankroll the development and build of the largest onshore windfarm in Europe, it is to be built in South Lanarkshire.

Details of the Clyde wind farm were announced by First Minister Alex Salmond at the World Renewable Energy Congress in Glasgow.

"The Scottish Government has an ambitious target to generate 31% of Scotland's electricity demand from renewable sources by 2011 and 50% by 2020," he said. "Today's announcement makes it virtually certain that the 2011 target will be met early and represents a significant milestone on the way to achieving the 2020 target. Scotland has a clear, competitive advantage in developing clean, green energy sources such as wind, wave and tidal power. We have put renewable energy at the heart of our vision of increasing sustainable, economic growth."
Construction is due to begin within the next year, with final completion in 2011. Once operational, the wind farm will have a total capacity of 548 megawatts (MW). The 152-turbine wind farm will be capable of powering up to 320,000 homes.

And Carbon off-setting is 'taking off' for air passengers

An interesting story and almost certainly one we will see more of in the coming months and years. As opposed to biting the bullet and not flying, the guilt-trip is kicking in and some air passengers are opting to choose a carbon off-set option with every flight they book. British Airways is singled out for specific praise in this regards in a comments by the Air Transport Users Council that are published in a press release today by the Energy Savings Trust.
